XYZ Outlet #8: George - Icaros Babassakis | Tuesday March 29, 2011, from 20.00 to 21.00, strictly | Perdika 8 & Achileos, Metaxourgeio

For its 8th edition XYZ Outlet is presenting the talk/event DDD [Debord Dérive Détournement]: Guy Debord and the City as a Playground by Greek poet and writer George - Icaros Babassakis.

An homage to the 80 years from the birth of Guy Debord (1931 - 1994), the talk/event DDD presents the French thinker’s and revolutionary’s theories on the city as a playground. “Poetry”, notes Babassakis, “now becomes an adventure within the labyrinth of the metropolis, a drifting (dérive); Art evolves into a cartography of chaos, a redefinition of its history through successive collages and montage (détournement)”.

George - Icaros Babassakis was born in April 1960. A poet, translator and writer, he has published acclaimed books on William S. Burroughs, the International Situationniste, Guy Debord and May ‘68. He has worked on Greek radio, namely Deftero Programma, ERA4, En Lefko, Sto Kokkino 105,5, and Kanali 1 Pireaus 90,4. Currently, he is a Guest Lecturer on the postgraduate programme of the Athens School of Fine Arts.
